Major Project: Theory of Green Building Architecture

Research on the concept of Green Architecture, also known as “Sustainable Architecture” or “Green Building,” is the theory, science and style of buildings designed and constructed in accordance with environmentally friendly principles. Having said that, there are Green Architecture and Green Design characteristics to design a useful and efficient building which are good for the environment rather than harm the environment as we need to have sustainable architecture when creating new green buildings in the future.

Green Architecture and Green Design Characteristics:

  • Ventilation systems designed for efficient heating and cooling
  • Energy-efficient lighting and appliances
  • Water-saving plumbing fixtures
  • Landscapes planned to maximise passive solar energy
  • Minimal harm to the natural habitat
  • Alternate power sources such as solar power or wind power
  • Non-synthetic, non-toxic materials
  • Locally-obtained woods and stone
  • Responsibly-harvested woods
  • Adaptive reuse of older buildings
  • Use of recycled architectural salvage
  • Efficient use of space

These characteristics are helpful as I can use it as a guideline of how the green building should have by producing sketches to reflect it on the drawing, and it get adopted on the model. The artefact, will show how future green building might be as well as to understand Green Architecture also known as Environment-friendly Architecture.

The article discuss the issue in relation to Green Architecture of how to have a sustainable architecture. Although, this is about Architectural Engineering but it does discuss what a green building how have in order to define as green building. Also, it does show examples of what green elements show contain. Therefore, it is helpful to understand the theory and principles behind Green Architecture.
